Impact Windows And Noise Reduction

Impact-resistant doors and windows were initially designed to withstand powerful winds and hurricanes, but many homeowners have begun to install them for their fortunate side effect: noise reduction. Because of the significant effect they have on external noise, impact doors, and windows have seen an increase in popularity in areas where the chance of natural disasters are low.

Due to the inherent thickness of multi-layered glass and the use of sturdier framing materials and sealants, impact doors and windows reduce the infiltration of outside sounds by up to 40%. In order to resist extreme conditions without shattering, impact windows are built with several thick layers of tempered glass held together by shatterproof membranes, usually made from durable plastics. Their overall thickness ranges from 7/16” to 9/16”, as compared to typical single-pane glass measuring an average of 1/8”.

Normal windows do little to dampen the sounds of kids playing, lawnmowers running, or dogs barking, but with impact-resistant windows, people can restore some tranquility to their homes.
People grow tired quickly of loud noises disturbing their leisure time during the day or waking them up in the middle of the night. Homes are meant to be sanctuaries from all the overstimulation of the outside world.

Over the past couple years, the price of having impact doors and windows installed has lowered. The increase of accessibility is driving many people to make the change and create the serenity they have always wanted in their homes.
